Following a series of engagements with producers at MOJA LOVE and Zodwa Wabantu, who made headlines for a series of homophobic and transphobic comments on her reality show, “Zodwa Uncensored”, the channel and Zodwa have issued a statement to apologise and affirm their commitment to better support for and sensitivity toward the LGBTI+ community. You can read the statement here:
Iranti will be working with Zodwa and producers to take remedial action and “ensure that education around these issues is promoted”. It has been Iranti’s stance from the onset of this issue that engagement and dialogue, in an effort to educate and promote sensitivity over ignorance, is in the best interest of the community. You can read our initial press statement on the matter here:
While we cannot condone Zodwa’s initial statements, we are against the widespread calls to cancel her show. We understand that the LGBTI+ community has been very justifiably angered, but thank Zodwa and her team for coming to the table and taking the time to listen.
It is our hope that together we can forge a better path, rebuild community trust, and educate the public on the real issues which still face LGBTI+ persons on a daily basis.
