Iranti’s mission is to be a media and advocacy platform for lesbians, gender non-conforming, Trans and Intersex persons and their organisations in order to strengthen the advancement of (all) human rights in Africa – enabling us all to strive for a just world where everyone lives with dignity, respect and equality; and where sexual, gender and bodily diversity are not only accepted but celebrated.

Founded in 2012 and based in Johannesburg, Iranti is an African regional partnership-oriented, rights-based, media, advocacy and movement-strengthening civil society organisation.

What You’ll Bring

The Iranti Board is seeking an authentic, respected and mission-driven individual to join the organisation as its Executive Director.

The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate qualification degree, coupled with a minimum of have a minimum of 5 years human rights experience and at least 5 years of proven track record of management experience. We will, however, also consider other combinations of education and experience.

As the Executive Director, you will join a small but ambitous team that places the interests and voices of our core constituency – LBQTI people – at the centre of our organisation and the work we do. We may be small, but our dedication to making LBQTI people’s voices and stories heard has resulted in extraordinary achievments – especially in areas where there have been efforts to silence and suppress the community.

What We’ll Bring

LBQTI people, movements and networks are the heart of our organisation – we amplify efforts to combat oppression, exclusion and invisibilisation, and we strive to ensure that LBQTI people flourish by living good lives of their own choosing. We do this by influencing policy and pushing for structural reform. Movement strengthening is central to the sustainability of Iranti’s work and to achieving our goals. We therefore consciously strengthen activists, change agents, leaders and organisations who share our goals.

Reporting to the Iranti Board, the Executive Director will be responsible for steering strategy development; executing and monitoring the day-to-day operations of the organisation; driving and sustaining collaboration with strategic partners; fundraising and representing the organisation as Iranti’s principal spokesperson.

For this role, Iranti is seeking someone with an excellent strategic vision and exceptional leadership track record to take the organisation into its next decade and build on the legacy of its founding Director. Ideally, the new Executive Director will be well-known in the LGBTIQ+ sector and have demonstrable experience working with local, regional and international human rights organisations and institutions, bringing about positive change for the LGBTIQ+ community.

We are looking for someone who has a  collaborative leadership style, and who possesses effective communication and networking skills that will serve to motivate and inspire staff and stakeholders. Most importantly, the Executive Director must demonstrate a genuine alignment with the priorities and values of Iranti and be committed to applying their skills towards the accomplishment of our mission.

The remuneration package is commensurate with the experience required for persons in the NGO sector and is inclusive of medical-aid, provident fund and annual leave.
