About Iranti

Iranti is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO),  founded in June 2012 to focus on lesbian, transgender and intersex rights across the African continent.  We achieve our purpose through advocacy, movement building and multi-media storytelling. Iranti is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

ROLE OBJECTIVE:

The LBQ Programme Officer is responsible for translating and implementing the Iranti Programmes and Advocacy Strategy for a specific constituency (LBQ women) nationally/regionally and internationally to attain its mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Role includes the following key responsibilities:

Managing & Delivering the advocacy and stakeholder management strategy (80%)

  • Develop the LBQ strategy based on the organisational strategy.
  • Coordinate and integrate programmatic work (inclusive of research and media programmes) for the LBQ constituency.
  • Develop a comprehensive LBQ workplan matrix and ensuring effective outputs and outcomes are aligned to Iranti’s strategy.  
  • Build, maintain and advise on strategic partnerships for desired policy agenda outcomes.
  • Advise Iranti and the strategic partner network on emerging and current legislation affecting the LBQ community in the continent its potential impact on the work of Iranti.
  • Regularly review plans and priorities with the team to make the most of emerging opportunities and potential tactics and review implementation challenges to enable swift remedial action.

Capacity building & management (10%)

  • Manage the performance of the assigned programmes and advocacy interns and provide input to the performance management of other Iranti team members. 
  • Support the professional development of the LBQ programme and advocacy interns.

Finance, Fundraising, Reporting and M&E: (10%)

  • Supported by the Programmes Manager in developing and managing the programme budget in line with our finance policies and procedures.
  • Ensure high quality narrative and financial monthly reporting as per requirements.
  • Provide support and data to the M&E officer to improve the quality of our delivery and impact.

Skills, Experience and behaviour requirements

  • A commitment to Iranti’s mission and a clear understanding of the links between advocacy research, and community building, campaigning and media work with a proven track record of delivering effective advocacy campaigns.
  • Proven technical advocacy and stakeholder management skills.
  • Be a Queer Feminist with an experience understanding of intersectionality.
  • Good understanding of the LBQ sector and knowledge of the advocacy issues relating to LTI.
  • Good networks within the sector and with associates.
  • Good research, writing and presentation and project management skills.
