Iranti is a registered non-profit organisation (NPO), founded in June 2012 to focus on lesbian, transgender and intersex rights across the African continent. We achieve our purpose through advocacy, movement building and multi-media storytelling. We work with an intersectional lens, often with LGBTI-sector partners, across the region and beyond. We have a ten-person team and operate from our office in Killarney, Johannesburg.

ROLE OBJECTIVE:

The Iranti Annual report is a comprehensive report that covers all project achievements, employee development, stakeholder engagements and financial status, and is compiled annually to keep funders and stakeholders informed about Iranti’s work. This report is an important element of donors and stakeholders’ decision-making process to fund and collaborate with the organisation.

The annual report has key governance criteria that it needs to meet with regard to Iranti registration as an NPO.

Iranti seeks to appoint a consultant to plan, write, and compile a draft and final printed version of the Annual Report for the 2019/2020 Financial Year.

The consultant will be responsible for:

· Planning the content, look and feel, and production of the publication

· Writing up the programmes (events, activities, stakeholder engagements) that occurred in the 2019/20 financial year, and activities and link it to all the programmatic areas of the Iranti Strategic plan, sourcing all documents and images related to the event

· Creating a “look and feel” for the report aligned to the Iranti organisational ethos

· Work with Iranti’s Media Officer to source all photographic material and plan and execute any additional photographs

· Developing and monitoring the approved budget for the project

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Publication plan, (List of content, proposed look and feel, Budget and quotes for printing, List of images, project plan)

2. Content – inclusive of: Letters from the Director and the Chairperson of the Board; Interviews with staff and key stakeholders; Write-ups of all Iranti projects and activities and the Financial and narrative reports; any additional research as required and approved by organisation.

3. Working with Iranti’s Media Officer to source relevant images

4. Draft print-ready report with all content and images

5. Final proof from printers, approved and signed off by Iranti

DESIRED COMPETENCIES, TECHNICAL BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

1. A commitment to Iranti’s mission and a clear understanding of the links between advocacy research, community building, campaigning and media work.

2. Graduate degree-level education in media/journalism/creative writing/social sciences

3. Stakeholder engagement skills to enable the engagements and collaborations with project managers, staff and partners to gain additional input

4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills;

5. Ability to work under pressure and stressful situations;

6. Analytical, creative and innovative and able to resolve problems timeously;

7. Professional copywriting and editing skills, including articles, reports and social media content. IRANTI PUBLIC CALL FOR 2019 BOARD MEMBERS – FINANCE POSITION:

Iranti has a vacancy for a Board Member to serve in the position of Treasurer.  Iranti is a registered Non Profit. The Board comprises of seven-member and the Executive Director.

Iranti is a Johannesburg based regional non-profit organisation (NPO) founded in June 2012 to focus on lesbian, transgender and intersex rights. Our vision is to build local partnerships and movements to advocate for the rights and recognition across Africa through the use of multi-media platforms, advocacy, research, and documentation.

IRANTI envisions a just world where everyone lives with dignity, respect and equality and where sex and gender and sexuality are celebrated freely.

TIME COMMITMENTS

Board members are expected to commit the time necessary to perform regular Board and Board committee meetings. Board members are also required to allocate time to prepare for meetings. 

THE POSITION: FINANCE

The Board is responsible for the governance of the organisations and has fiduciary responsibilities in its oversight of Iranti’s finances and assets. Board members adhere to a board charter and the relevant laws related to its mandate. 

This call is for a candidate with finance management experience. 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD:

  • Have a qualification in Finance. 
  • Have some experience or commitment to non profit finance 
  • Familiarity with fiduciary responsibilities of the board. 
  • Experience in budgets and oversight functions
  • Able to shape a plan on financial sustainability
  • and oversee risk and internal controls on finances. 
  • Should have good communication skills
  • Passionate about Iranti’s human rights work.
